17 year-old Jaheel Hyde (49.49) of Jamaica has not broken 50.50 since the end of March but that mark is the Jamaican Junior Record. He won the World Youth 110 Hurdles last year. USA and Baylor’s Tim Holmes (49.90) has 3 of the top 4 and 4 of the top 6 times this year. He is the favorite with all his top performances in tough US competitions (including 4th at the NCAA meet) and experience at Hayward Field. Another 17 year-old performer is Kenneth Selmon (50.13). He is headed to North Carolina next year after not losing to a high school athlete this year. He qualifed for the World Youth Meet last year but he did not go.
